In When the Lights Fade, investigative journalist Zoe (Keke Palmer) is sent to a remote mountain town to cover a series of mysterious blackouts tied to an abandoned copper mine. Meanwhile, engineer Marcus (Michael B. Jordan) is hired by the local utility company to restore power. As they team up, they discover that the outages coincide with strange electromagnetic pulses and eerie whispers recorded on Zoe’s audio gear. Soon, villagers begin to vanish during the blackouts.
Digging deeper, Zoe and Marcus uncover an underground network of tunnels beneath the mine, built during the Cold War to house clandestine experiments involving ESP and spectral energy. They find remnants of an old lab and a flickering apparition—a woman in white—who attacks them in the darkness. In the climax, Marcus rigs a generator to restore full power, and Zoe confronts the ghostly figure: it’s the spirit of a scientist betrayed by the project, seeking justice.
When the final lights come back on, the lab is quiet—and Zoe and Marcus are the only ones left, forever changed.
