Me Before You 2, subtitled After You, is an emotional sequel that picks up two years after the heartbreaking death of Will Traynor (Sam Claflin). Louisa Clark (Emilia Clarke) has left England behind for New York City, attempting to rebuild her life while honoring Will’s final wish—that she “live boldly.” Working at a luxury hotel and struggling with grief, Lou hides behind her bubbly charm.
She’s unexpectedly drawn into a support group for those dealing with loss, where she meets Sam (Callum Turner), a paramedic with his own emotional scars. Their slow-burn friendship begins to bloom into something deeper. But just as Lou opens her heart again, a letter from Will’s lawyer delivers shocking news: Will fathered a child before his accident—now a troubled teenager in need of guidance.
Lou returns to England, torn between a new future and the past she thought she’d left behind. Through difficult conversations and emotional growth, she becomes a mentor to the child—learning more about Will, herself, and what it means to love after loss.
The film concludes with Lou standing on a seaside cliff, reading a final letter from Will’s estate, reaffirming that he’d always wanted her to live, love, and continue.
With a $45 million budget, the sequel balances heartfelt storytelling, stylish European backdrops, and strong performances—especially Clarke’s moving return as Lou.
