THE JEFFERSONS (2025)

Title: The Jeffersons: Moving On Back
Release: November 2025 | Paramount+
Episodes: 10
Starring: Anthony Anderson, Regina King, Marsai Martin, Laurence Fishburne, Tracee Ellis Ross
Created By: Kenya Barris
Estimated Budget: $72 million

In this bold reimagining, The Jeffersons: Moving On Back begins with George Jefferson (Anthony Anderson) winning the $400 million Mega Millions jackpot. After decades of running his family’s dry-cleaning business in Queens, George moves Weezy (Regina King) and their Gen-Z daughter, Olivia (Marsai Martin), into a sprawling penthouse on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

But “moving on up” in 2025 isn’t just about a new address — it’s about navigating the modern world as a newly wealthy Black family in a space still dominated by old money and outdated attitudes. George’s over-the-top confidence clashes hilariously with luxury culture — he renovates the penthouse into a “Queens-style lounge” complete with a fish tank in the elevator.

Meanwhile, Weezy tries to ground her husband while forging bonds with progressive new neighbors — including their socialite-turned-activist upstairs (Tracee Ellis Ross) and the enigmatic building doorman (Laurence Fishburne), who has more to say than he lets on.

Episodes tackle everything from racial microaggressions and internet fame to therapy and generational wealth. George accidentally becomes a viral meme, Olivia launches her own eco-fashion brand, and the family faces the challenge of staying connected when status threatens to divide them.

In the powerful season finale, George discovers the old building his dry cleaners operated from is set to be demolished. He buys the block, turning it into a small business incubator for underserved communities, revealing that despite all the money, George’s real legacy is his roots.

The season ends with the Jeffersons hosting a block party — in Queens — with all the neighbors from Manhattan invited, finally bridging their old and new worlds.

BUDGET & PRODUCTION:
Paramount+ invested $72 million into the series, allocating a sizable portion to set design (recreating the penthouse and Queens neighborhood), a star-studded cast, and high-end costume design reflecting luxury fashion vs. street culture. The show uses a mix of single-camera comedy and emotional family drama, making it both hilarious and heartfelt.
