The cult Cartoon Network classic returns in live-action form with The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (2025), a dark comedy-horror adventure that reimagines the bizarre, gothic humor of the original (2003).
Milly Bobby Brown stars as Mandy, the sharp-tongued, fearless girl who refuses to be intimidated by anything—even Death itself. Finn Wolfhard plays Billy, her hilariously dimwitted best friend, whose childish antics constantly put the duo into dangerous and absurd situations. Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem takes on the role of Grim, the weary, sarcastic Grim Reaper, who becomes bound to the kids after losing a supernatural wager.
When Mandy and Billy accidentally unleash chaos by opening a forbidden portal to the Netherworld, ancient horrors begin spilling into their small town. From flesh-eating pumpkins to demonic toys, the world teeters on the edge of doom. Mandy, unfazed, takes command of Grim’s scythe, while Billy bumbles his way into worsening the crisis. Together, with Grim reluctantly in tow, they embark on a surreal, twisted adventure across realms to reseal the gateway.
The climax takes place in a nightmarish carnival dimension, where Mandy faces the embodiment of Fear itself. With her unshakable willpower and Grim’s reluctant guidance, the kids outsmart the dark entity—reminding Death that even he isn’t immune to losing to a child’s stubbornness.
The film closes with the trio sitting back in their neighborhood, as if nothing happened—Mandy as cold as ever, Billy laughing at nothing, and Grim sighing as he realizes he’s stuck with them for eternity.
