In Unfaithful, Connie Sumner (Diane Lane) lives a quiet suburban life with her husband Edward (Richard Gere) and their son. One day, a chance encounter in Manhattan with a charming Frenchman, Paul Martel (Olivier Martinez), leads to a passionate affair that quickly spirals out of control. Connie becomes consumed by guilt and desire, hiding the truth from Edward—until he uncovers the affair.
Devastated, Edward confronts Paul in his apartment. In a moment of rage, he kills him and disposes of the body. The cover-up strains Edward and Connie’s relationship, but ironically brings them closer emotionally. The film ends ambiguously, with the couple sitting silently at a traffic light, contemplating whether to confess—or continue living with the lie.
