In BUDS, eccentric odd-couple roommates Gary (Jim Carrey) and Tony (Adam Sandler) launch a misguided “Buddy Buds” business—selling friendship concierge services—in suburban New Jersey. After a failed karaoke night and disastrous bake sale, their partnership frays when Tony secretly starts a rival gig on the side. Gary’s over-the-top antics—interpreting Tony’s steel flower delivery as a coded insult—lead to a trusted friendship test.
In the mid-season twist, Tony accidentally reveals he’s using their client data to market a solo venture, leaving Gary devastated. Tony’s scheme blows up when a client files a complaint, and the public branding as “fake friends” forces them into community service: volunteering at a mental health center. During heartfelt sessions, they learn boundaries, empathy, and that their friendship project matters only if genuine.
The finale sees them hosting a reunion event—for the people they helped—where Tony gives a sincere apology and Gary reveals he pitched their idea on a late-night show. They reconcile, and the camera freezes as they high-five onstage—true buddies after all.
