Set decades after the events of the original, The Green Mile 2 follows Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks), now living in a remote care home, still burdened by the curse of longevity granted by John Coffey. Haunted by visions and unexplained events, Paul is approached by a young investigative journalist named Rachel, who uncovers another man on death row exhibiting supernatural abilities eerily similar to Coffey’s.

As Rachel and Paul dig deeper, they discover that Coffey’s essence lives on—passed from person to person. The inmate, Marcus Hale, is able to heal others but carries immense pain. Paul, driven by guilt and hope, helps expose corruption behind Marcus’s conviction. In a powerful final scene, Paul holds Marcus’s hand and passes on Coffey’s gift one last time, finally allowing himself peace. The film ends with Rachel walking the mile, now the keeper of a mysterious light—and a burden only few can bear.
